“A Window to Learning”
Traditional libraries face an uncertain future amid societal shifts toward digitalization and smart technologies. The library of the future should therefore move beyond being a visual repository of documents, embracing diverse lifestyles and media while becoming a place of rest and a space that accommodates a wide range of cultural and everyday experiences. In response, we propose a public space that embodies the public realm through discourse and participation.
To harmonize with the existing master plan, we read the flows of the site and identify key nodes, drawing them into the site. The flow of people represents the diverse flows of values and lives; embracing these flows creates a mind mark and strengthens the role of the Gyeonggi Provincial Representative Library.
Located at the entrance to Gyeonggi Convergence Town, the site carries strong symbolism and a sense of arrival. Considering its connections to the surrounding park, plaza, Gwanggyo Jungang Station, and the city, we developed three distinct social public spaces: a flow of paths connecting the surroundings, a flow of views connecting the city, and a flow of nature extending toward the rooftop.
