For the Daejeon Soje District Residential Environment Improvement Project, “GROUND SOJE” is proposed as a future-oriented residential environment that inherits the historic identity of Soje-dong through the integrated development of five blocks.
Capitalizing on its proximity to the Daejeon Station area, the plan establishes connective axes that respond to the surrounding urban context, while introducing differentiated strategies for each block: a large plaza created by an L-shaped arrangement, street-responsive towers, and rhythmic residential buildings that engage with the adjacent school and park.
Centered around a public pedestrian passage running through the complex, two distinct living zones—“Heritage Ground” and “Vivid Ground”—are created. Along the streets, four themed open communities and five landscape spaces, “5-REST,” are strategically arranged to enrich everyday life.
Specialized gardens that respond to changes in level, together with sustainable design strategies, create a safe pedestrian environment with 100% of the ground level transformed into a park-like landscape. Through its dialogue with the surrounding neighborhood, the project establishes a distinctive streetscape and community hub unique to Soje District, enhancing residents’ sense of pride in their everyday environment.
