By restoring the Cheonggye Stream which cut across the city of Seoul and acted as a major watercourse in the past, we aimed to create an environmentally friendly city space, recover the historical aspect of Seoul, and to induce balance development of the city. This project was not only aimed to address the historical part of Seoul, but also to provide a pleasant open space within the city to increase the overall pleasant cityscape, and to promote exercise, rest, quality of life, and provide an opportunity for the citizens to be in contact with nature. Also, the environmentally friendly water circulation system and preserving the habitat for small living organisms, we aimed to restore the polluted natural environment.
