Kim Dae-jung Convention Center: Embracing the City, Rising Forward
Kim Dae-jung Convention Center's Exhibition Hall 1 was completed in August 2005 and newly expanded in June 2013 to take on its current form. As the city around it has continued to grow, the center has served as the leading exhibition and convention facility of the Honam region, hosting countless exhibitions and convention programs while anchoring the heart of Gwangju's Sangmu District. Rising demand has brought positive momentum to the city, and the new Exhibition Hall 2 project responds to present and future urban change, moving the center toward becoming an even more competitive exhibition and convention facility.
The site for the new Exhibition Hall 2 holds the city's past, present, and future all at once—bordered by the 5.18 Liberty Park, a symbol of Gwangju's democratization movement; the existing Exhibition Hall 1; a lush green urban setting; and the future Gwangju Downtown Convergence Special Zone. Situated within this meaningful context, Kim Dae-jung Convention Center's Exhibition Hall 2 takes on a new role of embracing the city, preparing to rise forward.
