November 2014 Korean Institute of Architects / Seoul Economic Daily 2014 Architectural Culture Awards – Completed Projects: Sejong The Sharp Lake Park / Excellence Award
Sejong The Sharp Lake Park is located in Block L1 of Living Zone 1-5 in Sejong Special Self-Governing City. It is a low-density, eco-friendly residential complex with a maximum height of 12 stories, overlooking the 610,000㎡ Central Lake Park and the 650,000㎡ National Arboretum. The residential buildings are organized into two distinct zones and take three forms: tower-type, slab-type, and terrace-type. Each building was designed to incorporate its own distinctive character according to its specific role within the complex.
The tower-type buildings, with a maximum height of 12 stories, were designed as view-oriented residences that capture views toward both the southeast and southwest. The slab-type buildings, limited to a maximum of 8 stories, emphasize a human scale through their low- to mid-rise configuration and integration with the community circulation network within the complex. The terrace-type buildings consist of four-story slab buildings and two-story terrace houses. Designed as view-oriented residences overlooking the Central Lake Park, they include terrace houses and garden houses with spacious private gardens, creating a distinctive character unique to Sejong Lake Park that cannot be found in other residential complexes.
Particular emphasis was placed on bringing the surrounding natural environment into the complex and providing residents with a variety of outdoor spaces and community facilities according to the site’s different levels. The ability to enjoy the abundant surrounding landscape from within the complex is another distinguishing advantage that sets Lake Park apart from other residential developments.
