Dangsan-dong Child-Rearing Friendly Housing Construction Project

Dangsan-dong Child-Rearing Friendly Housing is a public rental housing complex developed by the Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH) in Dangsan-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.

Comprising two buildings ranging from six basement levels to 39 stories above ground, the complex houses 380 residential units alongside a range of childcare and community facilities, including “Imagination Land,” a multi-functional children’s café, a Seoul-style kids’ café, and a toy library. The design centers on the idea of a “protected outdoor space”: the lower floors are structured to shield children from the overwhelming scale of the city and the noise of adjacent roads. Above this base, the complex rises as a series of stacked layers—a floating volume housing the large-scale Imagination Land, terraced non-residential facilities, and outdoor spaces reserved for residents—together creating an environment where children’s imagination and social connections can naturally flourish in a safe and protected setting.
