Baegot Seoul National University Hospital is a key medical facility aimed at addressing the significant shortage of medical services in Siheung-si — reflected in the outflow of patients to other regions — while also keeping pace with the city's ongoing new town development. In connection with the Seoul National University Siheung Campus, it will also serve as a core hub for establishing a medical and bio-health convergence R&D complex and industrial ecosystem. The hospital will comprise 27 clinical departments and six specialized centers, including a Cancer Center, a Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center, and an International Healthcare Center. This large-scale medical facility project is being delivered by Hyundai Engineering & Construction under a turnkey contract. Accordingly, the Construction Management (CM) team must closely review whether the client's requirements are being met and whether the design and construction plans are appropriate, and must establish systematic management strategies spanning the entire process — from the design phase through construction — to protect the client's interests in terms of project cost, schedule, and quality. In particular, given the unique characteristics of a medical facility, specialized construction and quality management are required to secure key performance elements such as: the reliability of power and MEP (mechanical/electrical) systems to support uninterrupted medical services; seamless integration of medical information both within and outside the hospital; and an appropriate acoustic environment to ensure safe surgical and research activities. In addition, comprehensive construction management is required to proactively address key risks specific to each trade — including excavation planning in response to high groundwater levels, ensuring the structural stability of foundations built on reclaimed ground, quality control of the structural frame against chloride-induced (salt) damage, the delivery and installation of large-scale medical equipment, and the integration of various medical systems — in order to achieve a stable hospital opening and the highest level of performance as a state-of-the-art medical facility.
